Tres “booklets” consentidos
Hoy el tema es un tanto diferente, hablaré acerca de tres folletos o booklets consentidos, pero también de los discos de los que forman parte. Todos ellos de mi colección particular en el área del rock: John Lennon Anthology (1998); Creedence Clearwater Revival Box Set (2013); y Cat Stevens: In Search of the Centre of the Universe (2008).
John Lennon Anthology (1998)
Mi interés y admiración por el “jefe” Beatle inició como lo he comentado en otras ocasiones, cuando ví por primera vez la película, Let it Be. Los primeros recuerdos de esos mágicos momentos, todavía me emocionan. Los Beatles en escena tocando Don’t Let Me Down, con la voz desgarradora de John Lennon. Alrededor de treinta años después, en una de esas baratas en el 3×2 de Julio Regalado en la Comer, conseguí el Box Set en cuestión: John Lennon Anthology. Una caja con 4 discos de su trabajo como solista con versiones alternativas, demos, ensayos, tomas en vivo, y alguna que otra gracia. Sin embargo, algo que lo hizo muy preciado en mi colección, es su booklet. Un folleto con 60 páginas cuyo contenido va desde sus magníficas fotografías, comentarios de los 4 cd’s y sus 94 tracks, notas, curiosos dibujos originales de Lennon, las letras de las canciones y los créditos de cada una de las grabaciones. ¡Una joya!

Creedence Clearwater Revival Box Set (2013)
Ya iniciados los 70’s, mi gusto por “Los Creedence” se afirmó, cuando con mi entrañable amigo, Octavio Espinosa, me sentaba en una fonda del barrio a comer alguna fritanga y a escuchar algunos discos singles de la rockola. De nuestros favoritos estaban los de Creedence como: Cotton Fields/Lodi o Fortunate Son/Down on the Corner. También los seguíamos a menudo a través de un pequeño radio de transistores, en la hora de los Creedence por Radio Capital. Recuerdo que siempre esperaba algunas piezas que no tocaban ahí a menudo, como: I Put Spell On You, The Working Man, Ninety-Nine and a Half, Get Down Woman, Penthouse Pauper, Tombstone Shadow, Cross-Tie Walker, Sinister Purpose, The Night Is The Right Time, The Midnight Special y Before You Acusse Me. Curiosamente, temas con tintes de blues.
Recientemente en Mixup encontré este renovado Box Set con 6 cd’s conteniendo 110 tracks, que abarca prácticamente el total de su corta pero exitosa producción, incluyendo sus primeras grabaciones, antes de ser CCR. Sin embargo, el toque especial y único, está en el booklet. Un folleto con 76 páginas, con increíbles fotografías, la historia irrepetible de la banda, la reseña de cada uno de sus discos Lp originales, y el setlist de la caja con los créditos de las grabaciones. ¡De oro puro!

In Search of the Centre of the Universe (2008)
Un poco después del inicio de mi gusto por la música, comencé a comprar los primeros discos para formar lo que a la postre ha sido mi colección particular, y entre ellos, me encontré con uno que a través del tiempo a perdurado como uno de mis favoritos: Teaser & The Firecat de Cat Stevens. Con este álbum comenzó mi admiración por la música de Stevens, por los temas de guitarra acústica y, en consecuencia, el interés por aprender a tocar el instrumento. Los temas favoritos y que aprendimos al principio fueron: The Wind, Moon Shadow, Peace Train, Morning Has Broken, y un poco después la sensacional, Father and Son.
El box set en cuestión, lo he adquirido recientemente a través del comercio electrónico, vía Amazon. Una sobria pero representativa recopilación en 4 discos, que refleja fielmente la primera parte de la carrera del artista británico. Pero el artículo a resaltar, en esta ocasión, es el booklet, el folleto de 96 páginas adjunto a esta completa compilación que contiene collages fotográficos, letras de las canciones, un ensayo autobiográfico y un comentario track por track del propio Cat, de algunos de los productores y músicos participantes en las 79 grabaciones. ¡Un diamante en bruto!
