Para este mes de enero tenemos la reseña de un fascinante álbum, de los varios que Michelle Castiglia de MAC Radio Promo nos ha compartido: Randy Lee Riviere: Blues Sky. Además, el resumen del material recibido durante el año pasado.
Randy Lee Riviere – Blues Sky (Wilderness Records 2023)
Randy Lee Riviere (anteriormente conocido como Mad Buffalo) es un cantante y compositor de Montana y ahora de Tennessee. Es un objetivo en movimiento. Una vez que crees que sabes quién es él como artista, escuchas algo que aparentemente proviene del personaje que has imaginado en tu mente.
La descripción inicial de su música puede haber estado en el estilo “folk rock” a la Neil Young. Entonces puedes decir, no, es un artista de country, fuera de clásico, como: Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings o, Johnny Cash, entonces puede sonar a rock sureño como: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Blackfoot. O tal vez, pop rock como The Beatles, The Kinks, The Moody Blues. ¿Marty Robbins? Ian Tyson… ¡seguro! ¿ZZ top? Absolutamente. Y así seguiríamos.
Mientras escuchamos los últimos 20 años de su trabajo… a través de sus años como Mad Buffalo, que abarca cuatro álbumes: A Good Bad Road (2004), Fool Stand (2006), Wilderness (2008) y Red and Blue (2012), luego su trabajo solista como Randy Lee Riviere en su álbum de 2021, Wyoming, donde se escuchan todos esos giros musicales.
Randy Lee Riviere, que divide su tiempo entre su granja en Montana y una casa en las afueras de Nashville, ha creado un álbum que encaja perfectamente con los himnos del blues y el rock actuales, así como con las vibraciones arraigadas de la cultura americana.
El productor de este material discográfico Blues Sky, Kevin McKendree, reunió un elenco de músicos estelares, que tocan fielmente los sonidos de blues/roots del nuevo álbum para respaldar a Riviere (guitarras acústicas y voz): Kevin McKendree: guitarras eléctricas, teclados y voz; Kenneth Blevins: batería; David Santos: bajo; y las McCrary Sisters (Ann, Regina y Freda): coros.
